You can support the NYC DOE in ensuring the well-being and continued learning of our 1.1 million students in the 2020-21 school year and beyond, by donating to the NYC Schools COVID-19 Response Effort, led by the Fund for Public Schools.
As the non-profit partner to the New York City Department of Education (NYC DOE) since 1982, the Fund for Public Schools is uniquely positioned to respond quickly to emerging needs across our public schools, by working in partnership with the NYC DOE and the philanthropic community to rapidly identify and address the greatest needs and have the biggest impact. The Fund is a 501(c)(3) organization which makes all donations to us tax-deductible.
As new and unprecedented needs began to emerge across our more than 1,800 school communities, on March 23, 2020, The Fund launched the NYC Schools COVID-19 Response Effort. Learn more about our impact to date.
How You Can Support Our City’s Students, Families, and Educators
As our public schools reopen through in-person and remote learning, The Fund stands ready to partner to bolster the NYC DOE’s efforts and achieve the extraordinary school year our students deserve. Your donation will enable innovative and rapid solutions to support students and school communities directly during this time. Examples include:
Ensuring high quality teaching & learning, especially for vulnerable populations
As the new school year begins, we are seeking new investments and innovative partnerships to ensure every school can maximize in-person learning and enhance remote learning through the best in-class technology, high quality virtual resources, and training for educators. Additionally, The Fund continues to partner to support public schools in ensuring all students can have high quality technology and connectivity wherever they are learning.
Addressing mental health and investing in trauma-informed instruction
Every single one of our 1.1 million students will need to be supported like never before. Partnerships can support ongoing efforts to provide educators the training, tools, and ongoing supports to create a nurturing and healing environment for every student.
Supporting our most vulnerable student populations
While this is a difficult moment for all students and families, some of our students face additional hurdles and require more supports to ensure they succeed this school year. Additional targeted investments are needed for students in temporary housing, multilingual learners, students with disabilities, and our youngest learners.
Advancing racial equity in our schools
Our school communities are reeling from the anxiety and trauma of experiencing a global pandemic, one that has disproportionately hurt low-income neighborhoods and people of color. At the same time, we are reckoning with other forms of racial injustice and systemic racism that impact our schools and many aspects of students’ life experiences. Investments can support new initiatives to address racial bias and create inclusive and culturally responsive classrooms and schools.
Promoting college and career readiness
High school students now face new challenges as they work to complete graduation requirements and prepare for their next steps. Additional investments are needed to support high school students in gaining professional credentials and certifications to support career pathways, innovative solutions for college advisement, and paid work-based learning opportunities.
Investing in the well-being and engagement of families
During the pandemic, families have had to take on additional responsibilities for their children’s education. Many families stand to benefit from new investments in educational resources that can help them create routines, manage stress, support their children’s learning, and ensure their well-being. We are also seeking resources to enhance communications and outreach efforts, so that all NYC DOE families are well-informed and empowered as they navigate new challenges this school year.
Donations collected through the NYC Schools COVID-19 Response Effort will support high-impact NYC DOE priorities and innovative solutions, such as the examples listed above. If you wish to make a gift to support a specific school or student scholarship, please visit our general donate page.
